"Back to Basics" with Skyward Sword – The Feeling of Progression
Posted On 28 Feb 2011 By admin
25 years, 17 games, three Triforces, one princess, one evil king, one hero, one legacy. Perhaps the most enduring contribution The Legend of Zelda series has given to video games is the sense that as you play, your character gets stronger and can do more things, opening up more of the world to the player. It's a massive shift from previous games like Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros. where you cleared one stage at a time, and one that couldn't have been possible without the world-based, player-driven structure of the game. The strategies through which this kind of dynamic progression is accomplished have changed somewhat over the years, particularly with the series' shift to 3D which introduced greater story and puzzle elements than the 2D predecessors. But as it focuses on going "back to basics," can Skyward Sword accomplish a clean fusion between the two styles?...

Never Give Up
Posted On 27 Feb 2011 By admin
"I've been thinking this ever since I joined you... You never want to give up. You always want to try. I admire you!" - Tatl We've all experienced moments when nothing at all seems to be going right. When nothing goes according to plan. It's a part of life. Whether it's to do with relationships, your career, or your goals for the future, there will be times when it unavoidably all goes wrong. We know the feeling here at Zelda Informer, where as we were pushing the site forward to new heights and achieving our goals we got set back over a week by server malfunctions. As with so many other aspects that make up life, we can find this notion of failure all throughout The Legend of Zelda series. There are so many times when it all goes wrong for The Hero of Time and The Hero of Winds, but they persevere, and because of that it is only their successes that are remembered, not their failures....

You've probably already guessed what was changed from the news title, but click inside for more info on this intriguing moment in theorizing history....

"Back to Basics" with Skyward Sword – User Discovery
Posted On 27 Feb 2011 By admin
25 years, 17 games, three Triforces, one princess, one evil king, one hero, one legacy. Yesterday I sang praises for Skyward Sword's game world and its steps towards a denser and more dangerous Hyrule. If you were wondering why the article was so short, it's because there's a lot of stuff that falls under the diverse blanket of "user discovery," and based on the demo, that's another of the game's strong traits. There's a lot of Zelda series traditions from both the classic and modern entries that could return in a fine-tuned, better-than-ever way in Skyward Sword. And today, they're all about the player's experience....
