Skyward Sword is filled with references to pretty much every single other Zelda game in the series. 2012′s Most Anticipated
Posted On 05 Jan 2012 By admin
2011 is going to be one hard act to follow. While 2012 may be no 2011, there is still plenty for us Nintendo gamers to come this year. We've got the launch of Nintendo's next generation console, not to mention the 3DS really coming into its stride. While I'm more excited for films in 2012 - namely The Hobbit Part One, although the Dark Knight Rises is semi-exciting and it will be interesting to see what becomes of the Lost Symbol with Dan Brown at the script's helm - let's not downplay gaming in 2012. There is plenty to look forward to, and despite what else we do, gaming is likely - as always - to end up being that hobby that occupies most of our free time. It seems to be becoming one of our yearly traditions to look back at the best of the last year, and then look ahead to what we're anticipating, so let's get into it. 3DS, Wii U, Wii, DS - this is what we're anticipating in 2012....

3DS Sells More in First Year than Wii
Posted On 05 Jan 2012 By admin
Like, OK. I don't mean to be a braggart or a blowhard, but this latest bit of most welcome news is a delicious bit of "I told you so." (Well, I and other game journalists who aren't ridiculous sensationalists, but you know) Anyways, Nintendo has announced that in its first year, the 3DS has not only outsold the best-selling portable console of all time, but also the best-selling home console of all time (that'd be the DS and the Wii, FYI). In the US alone, the 3DS has sold 4 million units since releasing in March. Comparatively, the Wii sold about 6.27 million over the course of twelve months - but remember that the 3DS has only been out for nine months, and has outpaced the Wii in a similar timeframe. Achieving those kind of numbers might have been a bit more hard-scrabble than it has seemed for Nintendo in the past, but the accomplishment is just as impressive all the same. And ultimately, I'd argue, what's good for Nintendo and Nintendo handhelds is, in essence, good for gaming in general....

Nintendo Restricting Themselves: Skyward Sword 2 Is Unlikely
Posted On 05 Jan 2012 By admin
Well this doesn't usually happen. It seems like, right from the get-go of the development of a new Zelda title, Nintendo is already restricting their freedom in crafting a game world for a future game in the series. This comes as a surprise, to me, at least, because Nintendo doesn't usually like to create boundaries for where exactly a game in the series will fall in the timeline, or how the game they're working on will relate to the other games. The underlying gameplay structure has always determined the nature of the game world, and the resulting story elements associated with it. Unarguably however, series director Eiji Aonuma's reasoning for not foreseeing a possible Skyward Sword sequel/prequel is, well, reasonable. We've got the interview quote inside....
