Posted On 21 Jan 2012 By admin
The latest Iwata Asks is out, and this time it's all about Resident Evil: Revelations, the franchise everyone is talking about this week (seriously though, not only has their been 3DS news, but also an announcment for Resident Evil 6 and movie talks). The ask session has yet to be officially translated, but a summary of the important details has been posted in English. More inside, including a bit about how Capcom managed to get Resident Evil 5 running on the 3DS....

Kid Icarus 3D Classics Promotion Details for U.S., Pre-order Uprising and Get a Free Download
Posted On 21 Jan 2012 By admin
Buried deep inside the Kid Icarus Uprising press release we posted yesterday was a glorious confirmation: the remastered 3D Classics version of the original Kid Icarus will still be part of a promotional program in the United States. That program differs significantly from what we saw in Europe and Japan, however - instead of registering previously-purchased 3DS software to receive the free download code, U.S. customers must pre-order Kid Icarus Uprising at select retailers. The press release unfortunately didn't include a list of the participating retailers, and while one might have expected the usual suspects, now we know for sure. Hop inside for details....

ESA Joins Key Industry Members in Withdrawing SOPA Support
Posted On 20 Jan 2012 By admin
We've more than said our piece on SOPA by now, and I won't beat that dead horse. For those of you who haven't been following the story, SOPA is a piece of proposed anti-piracy legislation that's been floating around the U.S. House, met with widespread protest - if you saw any sites "blacked out" a couple days back you've encountered an example. Among the supporters was the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the central trade organization for the video game industry in the United States and the main force behind the annual E3 trade show. A number of these supporters withdrew their endorsement over the past weeks, but it seemed as though the ESA would hold its course. People from all corners of the industry, from outspoken gamers to members of the gaming press, planned to boycott the E3 trade show in protest of the ESA's decision. As of today, however, the ESA has dropped their support for SOPA. While the ESA wouldn't comment on whether the decision had anything to do with the intense pressure, they cite the potential "unintended consequences" of the law as currently proposed as worthy of concern. You can check out a broader quote from...

Nintendo’s New Online System Spotted? Say Hello to Nintendo Network (Yes, We’re Already Using It)
Posted On 20 Jan 2012 By admin
Well here is a bit of news I didn't expect to see arrive on the desk this morning. A user on twitter posted a picture taken with a camera of some dummy box art for THEATRHYTHM: Final Fantasy out of Japan that is apparently being used as advertising on store shelves. Turns out in the upper right hand corner is a new, never before seen, icon with "Nintendo Network" clearly written. Also, on the back of the box (after the jump) it states the game requires DLC, which is nice to see in terms of the flexibility of the new network. What's interesting of course is that this Network is apparently going to launch first on the 3DS before making it's way to the Wii U. Nintendo already has an online system in place on the 3DS with the WFC (which is just a standard Wifi Connection service). What's even more interesting is that in some areas of the world they are already using the Nintendo Network with Mario Kart 7, yet no announcement or discussion has been made about the Network or it's full implications. That may all change next week, on the 26th. More after the jump....

Rewards and Character Building in Skyward Sword
Posted On 20 Jan 2012 By admin
The Zelda franchise is famously premised on exploration. The original Legend of Zelda offered a world one could literally get lost in. Different mechanics — ranging from action to puzzle-solving — affected the way the player explored the world, but there could be little question that the whole purpose of the game was to discover. [...]

Hot Topic This Week: US Government – Zelda Informer Going All Political
Posted On 20 Jan 2012 By admin
In general in the gaming industry there are two topics you avoid discussing at all costs: Religion and Politics. Sometimes this applies to real life relationships as well, be it with friends or your significant other. People are extremely passionate about these topics, or are so disgusted by them they are offended they get brought up at all. It's a no one win situation for all involved. Yet, this week, we find ourselves caught up in all sorts of political debate. While some people have obviously found our opinions and stances on certain topics to be refreshing, naturally many others disagree. Some even going as far as to say they lost all respect for us because of how we feel about these topics, despite the fact that how we feel about these topics has very little to do with what we actually do at Zelda Informer. It's just an opinion, and that opinion is causing a small bit of backlash. It's rather entertaining, but at the same time it shows why these topics are avoided so often. Naturally, it's easy enough for us to go on doing our thing without talking about what is happening in the rest of the...

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Gears Up For Shipping
Posted On 20 Jan 2012 By admin
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, although it didn’t have the best sales when compared to its competition, it was definitely the most hyped and anticipated of them all. It has even gotten the most votes for game of the year in many different competitions. Why it hasn’t outsold other major titles is beyond me, [...]
