E3 1997 – Ocarina of Time Link Statue

As we approach E3 2010 with anticipation of Zelda Wii, it's interesting to have a look back at the effort Nintendo has gone to with previous E3s. Specifically 13 years ago, leading up to the 1997 expo where Ocarina of Time revealed itself. This year we're yet to see any sort of Zelda Wii collectibles, but back then there were Adult Link statues being sold as part of the promotion. And yes, it is worth calling these babies statues and not figurines because they stand a good 15 inches tall. They're hand-painted polyresin and are quite difficult to come across these days. One recently sold on eBay for about $510US, which was in mint condition with the original boxing, so I wish you good luck if you choose to hunt one down. They're popular things: that particular one got 40 bids and there's no sign of them anywhere else on the web that I could find. Funky face and frilly shirt aside, this is a pretty sweet collectible.
